It seems to me that we are in the midst of a theological revolution, and that this revolution started recently, as in about 30 to 35 years ago. Indoctrination simply does not cut it anymore. For myself, Christ is the key to understanding time, free will, the wrath and justice of God, the love of God, the humility and vulnerability of God, and the personality of God. Would Satan indeed take on Christ if he knew that there was no chance of success? Hardly. Did Christ especially enjoy the interaction that He had with those that He spent time with? Certainly. Did Christ suffer at all levels and then die? His humanity did die under the judgment of God and here we have our window into the punishment and extinction and annihiation of the unrepentant. Did the man Christ Jesus live in time. Was there a period before, during and after His coming. Is God looking forwards to the new heavens and the new earth? He is, and our future is intertwined with His future. Could Christ have failed. If He could not have, all is but play acting. In the covenants, God calls us to choose. Without choice, there is no love, there are no lovers, only robots. A God who would die only for the elect, save only the elect and condemn the non elect to eternal punishing would be a psychopath. Satan has misrepresented God by attributing his own character to God. This is the unpardonable sin. We live in a unique time in the history of mankind. I cannot help but wonder if the Lord is making a final push for truth, in order to save as many as possible.

I WAS SO GLAD TO FIND YOUR SITE. I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A NAME FOR WHAT I TAUGHT, I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE IN A SENCE. I KNEW THAT THERE MUST BE OTHERS WHO BELIEVED THIS WAY BUT DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS AN ACTUAL NAME FOR IT. I HAVE ALWAYS BELEVED THAT GOD IS LOGICAL AND SINCE THE WORD LOGOS MEANS THE LOGIC THAT BROUGHT ABOUT AND KEEPS IN MOTION AN EVER CHANGINIG CREATION I KNEW IT ALL COULD BE UNDERSTOOD. SO MUCH OF THE MAINE LINE DOCTRINES CONCERNING THIS ISSUE CAN NOT BE UNDERSTOOD AND ARE HELD TO OUT OF FEAR. NO ONE WANTS TO SAY THE EMPERER HAS NO CLOTHES. THEY ARE SO AFRAID OF BEING OSSTISIZED THEY WONT EVEN THINK ABOUT THE SUBJECT. AFTER READING SOME OF THE CRITISIZUMS OF OPEN THOLOGY IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THEY HADN'T SPENT MUCH TIME READING THE MATERIAL BUT ONLY READ THE SUMMERIES. THANK YOU FOR BEING THE LEUTHER OF OUR DAY AND STANDING FOR WHAT I BELIEVE WITH ALL MY HEART TO BE THE TRUTH. THE GOD OF OPEN THEISEM IS MORE POWERFUL AND TRUSTABLE THAN THE OTHERS BELIEVE. HE IS NOT WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PARISH YET BY FREE CHOICE SOME WILL. HE KNOWS THE FUTURE MORE POWERFULY BECAUSE HE KNOWS ALL POSSIBILITIES SIMULTAINIOUSLY. I LOVE IT. ITS SHOWS A GOD OF MORE BEAUTIFUL NATURE THAN THE OTHERS CAN SEE. I DON'T MAKE THEM MY ENEMIES FOR WE ALL STAND WITHIN THE PALE OF ORTODOXY WHEATHER THEY WANT TO ADMIT IT OR NOT. WE ASRE STILL BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST WHO ARE HAVING AN IN HOUSE DEBATE. I WISH THEY ALL WOULD SEE THIS AND LEARN TO WALK IN LOVE. AGAIN THANKS

"for in him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. Note the contrast between the "we" of verse 11 and the you of verse 13. We who were predestined to be the first to hope in Christ is the Jews, who first cherished the messianic hope and supplied the first believers. So yes it's corporate election, but in the case of verse 11 at least it's election of the Jews that is discussed I think.

Appreciate the site and the 'open' discussion.

When I first heard about 'Open Theism' the issue of Peter's denials occured to me as well. Clearly God knew Peter was going to deny Him...in fact God knew exactly how many times it would happen and what event would mark the last denial (the crowing of the cock). This is certainly more than just a good guess by God. The only literal way to understand it is that God looked into Peter's future and saw his denial. However, just because God choose to know or look into Peter's future on this one issue does not mean that He chooses to know every person's future exhaustively. The thrust of the Bible is that men must live by faith as demonstrated by the perfect life of Jesus Christ. God has made man in His own image and commanded us to live by faith in the principles that He has given us. Foreknowledge of the details of a fallen world is apparently not required; perhaps because such foreknowledge does not change those principles. In Peter's case, God apparently did choose to know and predict his future sinfulness ahead of time. That is God's perogative. If you balance His omniscience with His sovereignty God can know anything at anytime He chooses. The key is to remember that every choice He ever makes is perfectly timed and perfectly executed.

This is perhaps my biggest disagreement with 'open theism' as posited by this web site. I do NOT believe that the future is "unsettled." I believe instead that God has made a point of focusing on His own future and excluding the sinful elements of time that are being contributed by fallen men. God has stated in the Bible all that we need to know to live by His principles and like any great teacher He has also shown us by example thru the work of His Son. We need not know the details in order to live by principle and in fact when it comes to sin, God the Father need not know the details (even if God the Son choose to experience them on the cross). It makes more sense that the details of a fallen world simply constitute a false premise to God. He continues to operate on His pre-existing standard of perfect Truth and His lack of knowledge of sinful choices is a tribute to His holiness, righteousness and purity.

I would argue that the state of the canon is one of the most knowable things that God could ever know. Given that (and I assume that this is still a given) scripture is inspired by God, surely it's writing would require His involvement at some level. Thus, God would have to be aware of a new addition to the canon, since he is actively involved in its creation.

The question of whether we, as mere mortals, can rest safe in the knowledge of the completeness of the canon would be a slightly different debate. I would argue that since the canon paints a picture from creation to the new creation, that further insights would not be required. It would hold little water with me to argue that God would feel the need to release a sequel after such a long gap from the original. Not even George Lucas would have the bottle to do that!
